Philosophy of Art Education

"Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all."

Emancipatory Epistemology

Chase Fausett

My emancipatory epistemology or philosophy on life can be closely related to the Golden Rule which states, “Do unto others as you would have them done unto you.” My visual response is an assembled book that represents both my Christian views and societal views. The sheep’s wool found inside this book represents a society that is tightly woven together, but as soon as that weave comes apart the society becomes easier to pull apart.

I could connect to all the studio habits but there are three that really stick out to me. The first is to Develop your craft. Your craft doesn’t necessarily have to be as an artist but working everyday on the things you love helps you develop a better understanding and knowledge of what you want to do. The second habit is Observe. Observing the way others approach different situations can help you become better at whatever you want to do. The final habit is Reflect. Reflecting upon the things you have learned and the questions you still have will help you build upon the foundation that you have set. Reflection is one, if not the most important habit to use.
